Japanese Government Scholarship (Embassy Recommendation)
In this program, scholarship recipients are selected by an Japanese embassy or consulate general, depending on the country.
Applicants need to take examinations.
(Once accepted as a scholarship recipient, there is no need to take another entrance examination of TU.)
Because the application process differs according to the country in which the Japanese embassy is located, please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country for details.

Japanese Government Scholarship (University Recommendation)
In this progran, Tokushima University directly recommends the selected candidates to the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Candidates:
- Oversea students (Students from partner universities are preferred)
(Undergraduate students are basically excluded)
Procedures
- February – March: Deadline of Application for On-campus Selection
(Application should be submitted to the International Affairs Division)
- March – April: Selection of Nominees
- Mid of April: List of Nominees Sent to the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
(Enrollment usually starts from November)
Scholarship: Monthly Stipend

Japanese Government Scholarship (Domestic Selection)
In this program, the university carefully screens and recommends academically and individually excellent students as government-sponsored scholarship candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Eligibility:
- Should be a self-sponsored international student, and
- Should be enrolled in a graduate course as a full-time student (or expected to advance to a graduate course), or
- Should be a prospective 4th-year student of an undergraduate course as a full-time student (prospective 6th-year student in a medical school).
Application Procedure:
- Early November: Deadline of Application for On-campus Selection
(Application should be submitted to the Division of International Affairs/Section of Academic Affairs)
- Early November – Early December: Selection of Nominees
- Early December: List of Nominees Sent to the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
- April: The scholarship program starts.
