On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, the International Affairs Division and International Office conducted a fire drill training for international students at the Glocal-Communication Hall, Tokushima University. Among 16 participants, eight students are currently residing at the Kitajima International House and Nichia Kaikan, and eight students have joined online from overseas.

This training was conducted with the aim of raising awareness of fire prevention and firefighting skills of international students. During the event, officers from Tokushima City Fire Department explained about situation regarding fire disasters in Japan, how to call 119, how to prevent fires, and what to do when a fire breaks out. After the lecture, participants practiced how to use a fire extinguisher using simulation settings. The training was well perceived by the participants’ reflections such as “I learned interesting information about firefighting,” “It was very helpful, I really learned how to cope with a fire,” and “I haven’t used a fire extinguisher before, but now I can use it.” After the event, the students were reminded for being aware of disaster prevention and received disaster prevention stockpiles that can be used in the event of a disaster.
