Drugs
Many criminal cases are happening in Japan due to the misuse of illegal drugs, such as marijuana, synthetic drugs (MDMA, etc.) and stimulant drugs, by general adults and students.
Drug misuse does not only give huge negative damage to your body and mind, but collapse your relationship with your family and friends and seriously hinder your schoolwork as well. For example, you will be sentenced to up-to seven years in prison for your misuse of marijuana and to up-to five years in prison for your illegal possession/alienation of marijuana. You will also be deported on court order for your use/possession/alienation of illegal drugs.
Theft Case and Lost Items
Please protect yourselves against theft.
- When you leave your apartment, be sure to lock the door and windows. Do note leave valuable items in your apartment.
- Do not leave valuable items in a dressing room or in your locker.
- When you park your bicycle or automobile, be sure to lock it.
When you lost something, please contact Section of Student Affairs or the office nearby.
Sexual Assaults
Sexual assaults on female students are increasing even in Tokushima. Please keep the following in mind for your security:
- Do not walk alone in the dark.
- Call the police if you find a suspicious individual around your apartment (Emergency Call to the Police: 110).
- Do not feel secure even if your room is located on the higher floors, such as 2F or 3F.
- Lock all the windows of your room.
- Ask your landlord (or housing agency) to repair a broken window or door.
- Do not hang the washing out to dry (Hang them in your room).
- Choose the curtain in the color that female students do not select.
- Put a blindfold on the letter box on the door.
- Do not put your name on the name plate of your room.
- Do not leave anything outside below a window.
- Do not take an invitation by an unknown person.
- Dress properly.
- Contact the police immediately when you are involved in an assault case.
- Carry a portable emergency alarm with you.

Traffic Safety and Accidents
When you drive an automobile (including a bicycle), please mind following issues for your safe drive:
- Drive within the legal speed
- Be sure to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike
- Do not ride double on a motorbike or a bicycle
- Drive slowly at a blind corner
- No unlicensed driving and drunken driving (Unlicensed driving and drunken driving are illegal in Japan)
- Do not park your automobile (including bicycle) on the side of a road. Park your automobile at a parking space.
- While driving, be careful for elderly people and children
- Do not use a mobile phone while driving
- Be sure to make fellow passengers wear a seat belt
How you should respond to a traffic accident:
1. In Case You Caused an Accident
- Rescue the injured person first
(If you leave the place of the accident without taking care of the injured person, you will be seriously punished)
- Dial 119 and call an ambulance
- Move the injured person to a safe place nearby (Also move your car to a open space)
- Provide first-aid to the injured person
- Contact the Police and Insurance Company
- Dial 110 and call the police
- Do not have a private negotiation with the injured person. Ask the police to inspect the accident location and issue an Accident Report.
* Private negotiations can make the problem more complex.
- Contact your Insurance Company
* The insurance company handles the negotiation with the injured person.
* To claim liability converge to your insurance company, you need the official Accident Report issued by
the police.
* Be sure to ask the injured person to have a medical examination

2. In Case You are Involved in an Accident
- Contact the Police and Insurance Company
- Dial 110 and call the police
- Do not have a private negotiation with the person who caused the accident. Ask the police to inspect the accident location and issue an Accident Report.
* Private negotiations can make the problem more complex.
- Contact your Insurance Company
* The insurance company handles the negotiation with the person
* You are not charged for your medical treatments. The insurance company of the person covers the medical expense.
* Be sure to take a medical examination at a hospital
